We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. You use curves, eh? Do you know about the Variations tool? Image > Adjustments > Variations. It should be at the bottom of the list. It's similar to curves I guess, but I like it more. XD
